Summer Sketching: Pond & Pier

This week in my "Watercolor Sketchbook" class we painted water and trees.  The park that sits behind the boat-shed where we meet is truly gorgeous.  It sits along the Cedar River but also has several ponds.  So in preparation I thought I would share some of my practice done from some reference photos I found on the Internet.

Water is very unpredictable and leaves itself wide open for interpretation.  It's mood is determined by the sky above and the strength of the breeze.  Capturing the mood in water is always fun and much like humans, it's never what it seems.  This sketch is watercolor, watercolor pencil, and ink.

Thanks for stopping by. xx
