Sometimes with Art Journaling the images come first and the words come later.
Often the images are inspired by photos I've seen, books I've read to my children, or the work of other artists. This page was inspired by the work of water colorist Brenda Swenson.
I prep the page, paint the pictures, then wait until I have something to write. Some pages can be left like this for months, then as time permits, I sit down, flip through my journals and write on the pages that have already been illustrated.
This spread was done in Caran d'Ache Neocolor II Water Soluble Wax Pastel and ink. Wax Pastel can be hard to write over, so to make it easier on my pens, I spray a light flurry of workable fixative after the illustration is complete.
Find ways to get creative, and don't forget to join me tomorrow for "Friday Sketches".
Thanks for checking in. xx
