Friday Sketches - Time Out

Friday sketches is a weekly blog challenge where you can share what you've been doing in your sketchbook. It offers a simple weekly theme that you may or may not choose to use.

Friday Sketches enables you to practice your sketching while capturing the beauty and simplicity of the world around you.  There are no rules except that your work must be in a sketchbook or artists journal.  You can use any mediums, any techniques, and sketch any subjects you like.

To join in, simply click the link at the end of this post to share your sketchbook pages. You can link up anytime during the coming week, and be sure to check out what others have been doing by clicking through the links.

Have fun xx

"Time Out"

I'm settling back into my life in the mid-west and despite the brutal winter and miles of snow, I'm loving it.

My 8yo is back in her old school and feels right at home, and my 4yo is settling into his "Special Ed" class beautifully.  They're both thriving and that is exactly why we came home.

I've been enjoying reconnecting to my friends, one of whom is about to have a baby which brings so much excitement into our lives, her husband is about to open a restaurant (thank goodness because he's an incredible cook) .  Another friend just got a wonderful new job in the Arts, which is awesome and wonderful and she soooo deserves it.  Another friend is about to finish her PhD while her husband has just finished is Masters...they're amazing.

What an inspirational bunch of friends we have.

As part of my routine, I've been spending Friday mornings out and about practicing my 'plein air' sketching.  Sitting in coffee shops or parked in my car somewhere lovely with my sketchbook.  I've been doing some quick sketches with the sole purpose of practicing my sketching and trying to capture more of those random moments around town.  It's been so much fun.

I plan to dedicate Friday's now to quick scribbles and sketches in my watercolor sketchbook journal.  I'm calling it "Friday Sketches".  I want to hone my skills as I plan of running some live workshops over summer.  I can't wait.

This page was done in Starbucks.  I sat in one of those big comfy arm chairs and just observed for a while. Then I scribbled this scene of a man sitting in front of me just contemplating.  It was lots of fun.

If you'd like to join me for Friday Sketches, feel free to link to your Friday Sketches blog post (not your blogs general URL) by clicking the link below at anytime during the coming week so that I and others can come visit you.

Have a wonderful weekend and remember to take some time out.

Thanks for checking in. xx
