Sea Change

My mother is visiting from Australia right now and it's been just delightful hearing about all the comings and goings back home.

She lives by the sea on the Bellerine Penninsula in Victoria, surrounded on three sides by ocean.

It's a beautiful sleepy little fishing town most of the year, but crawling with holiday makers in the summer.

I love to visit there and enjoy long walks along the windy beach path during winter.

I often dream of a Portarlington sea-change, closer to my family, it makes me yearn for home.

This journal page was done in watercolor & ink in my Stillman & Birn Epsilon Series sketchbook.

Enjoy your weekend, and thanks for checking in. xx

  1. This is a gorgeous painting! Sorry you've been feeling homesick. I understand; I moved away from Connecticut, where I grew up, and I still long for it 25 years later.

  2. Reading your words and seeing your painting makes me homesick for that beach too and I've never even been there!
Your painting is stunning as always. I love the way you zoom in so that I can see the details....it's very kind of you ;-)
Enjoy your special time with your Mum...I'd give anything to spend a day with mine, but sadly she passed away 3 years ago.
    Have lots a fun. :D

  3. A lovely composition (as usual) and a very nice change of scenery for those of us inland.

Did you draw this from memory? That's a trick I do wish I could learn: I passed by my kitchen window this afternoon, and there was a squirrel sitting on the fence just outside, perfectly positioned near a cypress tree. He, the fence and the tree bark were all the same color. It would have made a wonderful piece, but I was in a hurry to take the kitties to the vet and didn't have time to snap a reference photo, so I lost the opportunity. :-(

  4. How wonderful to have your Mum there with you... such a change in weather for her though... and I hope the penninsula isn't in the bush fire zone... so hot and sticky here today I think I would like to go and live inside your painting... it looks cool there...xx
