Grief, Love, & Compassion

It's difficult for anyone to try to reconcile what happened in an elementary school in Connecticut on Friday.  There isn't a parent alive who hasn't been affected by the horror of these shootings, but none more so than the families who now have to wake up each morning without their children.

As a parent of young children; a preschooler, and a second grader, I simply can't process this tragedy, and of course there are so many reasons, opinions, perspectives as to why, and what we should do about it.  I don't know what the answers are, all I know is that my husband and I are now trying to make sense of what is becoming more and more, a frightening and unrecognizable world in which our children must grow up.

Like most of America, in fact the world, we are in a period of mourning and I am sending all my love, sympathy, and compassion to the families directly affected by this senseless tragedy.

And I call for reason, logic, and courage going forward.

Hugs xx

  1. My thoughts exactly this morning as I woke up. How will they do it? The realization anew every morning that they will not have those little souls to cuddle in the flesh. My belief and my experience, is that those bright little lights will surround their grieving families and comfort them. May my heart expand, may your heart expand as I (we) process our grief and allow it to do its transforming work in us...which inevitably to make any sense at all has to be more love and more right action.

  2. Very beautifully said Dion! There is no reasoning to any of this, but if we all pool our prayers together for these families, and ALL families around the world watching and wondering why, maybe those prayers will help ease the pain a little in some small way.

  3. It is totally frightening. Our morning paper here in NSW, Australia listed 12 mass shootings and sadly only 3 occurred out of the USA, including our own dreadful Port Arthur event. My heartfelt sympathies to all who have been affected by this latest atrocity.
