The Great Outdoors: Autumn in Iowa

We spent the weekend hiking around the Nature Trails of Cedar Falls this weekend. There are over 80 miles of linked trails throughout the Cedar Valley area of Eastern Iowa; both paved and unpaved. Getting out in nature is the perfect way to entertain kids and get some exercise. Of course we took our sketchbooks, and we've got lots of  "Autumn" works in progress.

I don't usually post just scenic photos, but Autumn is truly a glorious time of the year, and the trails around our house are so beautiful at this time of year, I felt the need to share.  So I'm breaking with tradition and going to let the pictures speak for themselves.

It's still early autumn in Iowa, but despite the drought and the experts prediction of a colorless autumn, nature is proving gloriously rebellious and putting on a show.
