With two young children, and a very full art schedule, I rarely venture of my studio to teach at galleries, shops and at retreats. I must say though, it's on my agenda to do more of this in the future. I get lots of invitations, and looking at some of the wonderful retreats around, I'm more and more tempted to accept them. However, my family always comes first, and right now, they need me at home.
However, the occasional invitation comes along that is just too good to turn down. That invitation came last month from the wild, wacky, and hilariously funny Kathleen Fenton from The Gallery off Broadway in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Katleen has a wonderful philosophy on life and art and is so very talented, her work simply blows your mind. Excelsior Springs is only about 4 hours from where I live so I thought it would be a lovely opportunity to bundle the hubby and kids into the car and take a beautiful weekend trip south.
The Gallery Off Broadway is nestled in the gorgeous artsy community of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, home to some wonderful and well know artists. Kathleen's original vision for this gallery was to provide an experience where creativity flows freely and where people of all ages have the opportunity to find their inner artist, one experience at a time. The Gallery Off Broadway is more than just a gallery of fine art; in Kathleen's words it is "A Party With Paint Brushes."
This is my only studio class appearance for 2012, so if you've been wanting to learn all about creating shimmering, twinkling, sparkly, silky art, and want to do so in a classroom setting, then this is your one and only chance. I'll be teaching a one day masterclass called "The Art of Luminescence" in the gallery's main classroom on Saturday November 17, 2012, from 10am to 4pm. Lunch will be catered and the costs is $60 per participant, which includes supplies and lunch.
During this masterclass I will take you on a shimmering, twinkling journey into the world of luminescence. Aimed at all levels, you will be immersed in a vibrant world of glittering, twinkling, shimmering art technique. Luminescent paint is infused with mica minerals and crystals, which refract and reflect light in a dance of color and sparkle. These mineral properties add depth and vibrancy to colors that have to be seen to be believed, and when used in art, the observer is left in awe.
In this one day masterclass, the morning session will be dedicated to luminescent watercolor technique, and the afternoon session will be dedicated to luminescent acrylic technique--both very different. I'll be using Luminarte's Twinkling H2O watercolors and Silks Acrylic Glaze as my products of choice. However, the emphasis of this class will be technique and we will be creating some beautiful projects along the way, including sketchbook art and fabric.
I'll have LOADS of product samples for you to play with, including the brand new Silks Acrylic Glaze colors and a sneak peak at the 'yet to be released' new Twinkling H2O's colors. Each participant in this masterclass will receive a gift bag which will contain Luminarte samples, along with other goodies to take home. You will also be able to purchase Twinkling H2O's and Silks Acrylic Glaze in the Gallery throughout the workshop.
