When Artists Cook

Let me introduce you to the WACKIEST of WAC-Y team members for this series...Tracey Fletcher King.  There is no denying that most of us will have an affinity with the life and times of Ms Fletcher King, and if you're ever in the mood for a good laugh at yourself, visit her blog.  I have introduced you to her before in my series An Artist You Should Know, to see that wonderful post, click here. There is so much to say about Tracey, but I'll let you read it for yourself, because quite simply, I can't put it into words nearly as well as she has..click here!

I am so pleased to be part of When Artist’s Cook because food is one of my favourite things and I find constant inspiration in so many food related things.... I will come clean on a few things from the beginning and first up will say I have cooked some really disastrous meals... I am talking monumentally bad, spit it out immediately, should we perhaps skull a bottle of antacid now type awful... but I have also cooked some glorious ones...  and many more have turned out than have been disasters so I figure I am ahead of the game.... and any recipes that I do put up here will be foolproof if I have managed to get them on the table and they have been eaten and approved

Confession number two is that I am totally obsessed with cookbooks... I have well over 100, closer to 200 but let’s not tell anyone that and they are spread over four or five rooms of the house... I read them like novels or magazines... I usually have one in the car for school pick up time , one beside the bed, and there is always at least one sitting on the table in the breakfast room and the rest are spread over shelves in a further three rooms mainly because that way I can hide just how many I have... which is essential as there appears to be a mild rebellion regarding new titles being added to birthday and Christmas lists and people are complaining but I just love the whole possibility of a good cookbook.... all those recipes just waiting to be tried... all those ingredients screaming to be combined in new ways.... and of course all those wonderful photos always inspire me... this painting is some of my current favourites... all of which were piled on the coffee table next to my chair with tabs in them for next week’s experiments.... sorry creations

Of course I am sometimes more enthusiastic about reading about food rather than making it, so we have a fair share of toast or cereal for dinner... not that there is anything wrong with that as I happen to have quite the talent for making perfect fluffy instant porridge.... and I love a boiled egg... partly because we have these great egg cups and spoons, but also because my dear husband, Sinus Man can make them... he has even progressed to fluffy scrambled eggs bless him... so we are making progress... and don’t let me forget to say he is quite the poached egg maker... mine always look like a weird unspeakable sort of egg soup... but his are prefect every single time... very impressed with that

More than anything else about cooking, I love to draw from my pantry or kitchen... I love the packaging and colours, the shapes and combinations... whether it be tins in the pantry, dishes on the sink, vegies and herbs in our vegie patch, tea cups and mugs in the cupboard, fruit in the bowl on the table, or cutlery in the drawer, they are all just begging to be drawn and painted... as long as I have  a kitchen, pantry and fridge I will never run out of things to draw and paint.... or blog about... so much of our family life revolves around food and sharing meals, even if it is just vegemite toast....

I look forward to sharing some of this with you all... and I promise I won’t include any recipes in future posts that haven’t been tried, tested and approved by my personal guinea pigs... I mean family... there has already been spirited debate as to recipes I should share... the most notable came from the teenage daughter who suggested that one of my best recipes was making a booking at a restaurant... the little traitor is so getting broccoli chips in her lunch box tomorrow... let’s see her try and trade those with someone...
