Dandelion Dust

Today, I am extremely honored to be the featured artist on Jennifer McLeans gorgeous watercolor blog Just Add Water Silly.  As some of you may remember, I recently featured Jenn in my Artist Your Should Know Series, and was also a part of her wonderful debut article in Featuring: magazine. Jenn is also part of Inspiration Avenue and runs her own art challenge called Artist's Playroom.  These are all fabulous resources for the creative community and I highly recommend you check them out.

In honor of my feature today, Jenn is running a week long giveaway where you could win one of two sample sets of Luminarte's Silks Acrylic Glaze.  All you need to do is hop on over to Just Add Water Silly and leave a comment on the post (click here), and your name will go into the draw.

In the meantime, I thought I'd share this crazy little sketchbook page I did a few days ago.  Spring has the mid-west well and truly wrapped in floral beauty...everywhere except our backyard.  Sadly, I haven't had much chance to get into my garden this past year, so spring has provided her own symphony of color in the form of dandelions.

Well, to most of us, the dandelion is a pest, but to my six year old they are the perfect flower.  Not only are they her very favorite color...yellow, but they are EVERYWHERE.  Dandelion chains are littered all over the place and I get presented with a bunch of dandelions almost every day after school. What's even better is that when they turn to what she calls 'magical dandelion dust', she sees it as her duty to blow the soft wispy pods of magic out into the world to spread the beauty and happiness.

So the other afternoon as we sat outside, she presented me with yet another bunch of dandelions and promptly suggested that I paint them.  So I did.  I splashed some watercolor around, then drew in some simple dandelion-like designs.  She declared this to be one of the best pictures she'd ever seen and decided that it simply must hang on her bedroom wall in our new home.

It was fun and whimsical, and now this page is filled with happy memories.  Remember to enjoy the simple things in life, and as my father ALWAYS said...you've got to stop and smell the roses, or in this case, the dandelions.

Have a beautiful day, and thanks for checking in. xx
